BlueTec, BlueHDi, BlueMotion ... increasingly proliferate denominations headed with the word "blue" among diesel cars sold. The cause is the entry into force of the Euro 6 standard limiting emissions permitted for engines, especially with solid particles and NOx gases are concerned. Although there are mechanics that can fulfil this standard without resorting to such systems of gas purification, with the arrival of the Euro 6.2, practically all diesel engines will require them.
Diesel engines produce fewer pollutants and CO2 products, but unfortunately, there are two issues that are very dangerous and should be reduced as far as possible: nitrogen oxides (NOx) and diesel particulate matter (PM) it is generated by the combustion of diesel.
However, NOx can’t be physically removed, so that it requires a chemical reaction that transforms and not emit to the atmosphere. To produce this chemical reaction, two elements are required: firstly, a catalyst that facilitates the process to take place and, second, a chemical compound that reacts with hazardous NOx and these are become in harmless gases. This additive is commercially known as AdBlue® and is composed of a solution 32.5% urea.
After combustion in modern engines, most NOx generated are NO and NO2. A small chemical plant is introduced into the exhaust pipe of automobiles. Consequently, to avoid these gases are emitted at atmosphere. This "automatic laboratory" add urea to gases and causes a reaction in the catalyst. The nitrogen oxides are mainly transformed into nitrogen, water and CO2. All three are safe and, although CO2 is a greenhouse gas, is less "active" than nitrogen oxides.
The AdBlue® or AUS32, is a technical solution of urea for automotive, diluted to 32.5% in demineralized water. This solution is clear, it is not toxic and is safe to handle. Although it may be corrosive to some metals, and materials suitable for transport and storage should be used.
Initially the technical specification was collected in DIN 70070. In 2006 the ISO 22241 standard came into force worldwide. In addition to the technical product specification, ISO 22241 includes the methods analysis of samples as well as the requirements for handling, transport and storage of AdBlue®.
For these reasons our technical department has designed the ISOTANK EXA City 14SS and ISOTANK EXS City 14SS for urban service stations where space is a problem for the installation of a warehouse for AdBlue®, that meets the ISO 22241 standard; in order to meet the increased demand that will occur in this sector in the short term, as sales of diesel passenger cars with SCR will continue to increase.
